Igesund set to learn inquiry outcome

South Africa's football association says it will not renew the contract of national team coach Gordon Igesund when it expires at the end of July.

It is amazing why the government does not see and acknowledge the plain truth that holding a referendum on April 30 this year by using an updated voter register is not possible. As it stands, all indications clearly show that the National Electoral Commission (NEC) will not be able to register even quarter of potential voters using biometric voter registration (BVR) technology by that date. Yet, the government and NEC are adamant that the referendum will go ahead as planned.

The handover ceremony of the Proposed Constitution by Constituent Assembly chairman Samuel Sitta, and his deputy in Dodoma to Presidents Jakaya Kikwete and Dr Mohammed Shein was a big event full of pomp. Even the full backing of the State machinery, and symbolism in the choice of the venue for the event could not shield it from the obvious: a polarized country.
