LAKE ZONE: 117 girls take refuge in church to escape FGM

Kilindi. Some 250 young Maasai girls were yesterday attained womanhood in a traditional rite of passage that was conducted at Saunyi Village, in Saunyi Ward, Kilindi District, Tanga Region, without undergoing Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).

A total of 2,118 girls have fled their homes since November 15 this year to escape female genital mutilation (FGM) in some areas of Mara Region.
