Lowassa kept away from Kisumo burial as police block motorcade

Kilimanjaro Police block former Prime Minister and opposition presidential candidate Edward Lowassa from heading to the burial of CCM cadre, Peter Kisumo. Lowassa’s long convoy that included leaders from the opposition coalition (Ukawa) was stopped along the Mwanga-Usangi road before being forced to make a U-turn.

POLICE in Kilimanjaro Region have denied blocking a convoy of former prime minister and UKAWA presidential candidate, Mr Edward Lowassa, from attending the funeral of Mzee Peter Kisumo, which was held at Usangi, Mwanga District on Thursday.

For the expansive Usangi Village, high on the hills east of Mwanga Town, it will be one of the largest crowds of mourners seen in recent years during the burial of Mzee Peter Kisumo, 80, one of the early independence days’ politicians.
