Mediators upbeat after S Sudan talks

Direct talks between South Sudan’s president and the country’s rebel chief have failed to strike a peace deal, mediators said Friday, but added that discussions would continue over the weekend.

Uganda’s defence minister is in Burundi in the latest bid to kickstart peace talks between rival factions in the impoverished central African country, presidential officials said Thursday.

Addis Ababa. Negotiators have proposed establishing a court to try possible genocide and war crimes in South Sudan, in the latest power-sharing peace proposal hoped to end a 19-month civil war.
