The government is preparing a list of individuals and companies that have been granted tax exemptions of some Sh6.8 trillion in the past four years.

>Finance minister Saada Mkuya yesterday tabled a budget that seeks to rein in lavish spending as it abolishes expensive tax exemptions. But even though the government promised to reduce the cost of living, the budget presented yesterday did not demonstrate clearly how the man on the street would get relief when it comes to daily household expenses.

I was most consternated by the route which the Tanzania Govt. of President Jakaya Kikwete has chosen to take in efforts to root out poaching which threatens to leave the country without elephants in a decade or so hence!
