Referendum can’t take place in 2015, says NEC

>Tanzanians may not go to a referendum to approve the proposed new constitution any time soon, according to the chairman of the National Electoral Commission (NEC), Retired Judge Damian Lubuva.

>The National Electoral Commission (NEC) yesterday reversed its position on the referendum on the new constitution, saying it is now in a position to make the necessary preparations for the April 2015 event.

>The botched referendum revealed several National Electoral Commission (NEC) weaknesses which, if not well taken care of, disqualifies the body from handling credible elections.
