Rescued by a cat that played role of ‘Pied Piper’ of Uswaz

You love stories. Don’t you? That is why I am hammering the keyboard to write one for you. As a nursery kid, before Miss Magari threw me out of class for peeping under her skirt, she told us one story about the Pied Piper of Hamelin that is significant in this rat and cockroach-infested Uswaz. The story was about a man who was hired to lure away rats with his sweet piped music to their demise.

In Uswaz, we serve both God and ‘Shaytan’

In these god-forsaken ghettos called Uswaz, religion happens to be grossly misunderstood. We combine pious characters with superstition. The line dividing the divine and evil is thin as a cobweb. Uswahilinites love to keep a piece of Shaytan (devil) and God at the same time although the holy books say that light and darkness do not mix.

Musical, jealous and very happy Uswaz...this one

Ladies and gentlemen, in Uswaz, every soul loves music. Anything from Asha Mashauzi’s Taarab that on a daily basis wafts from my neighbour’s shack, to glass-shattering hip hop that booms from a bachelor’s pad opposite my house qualifies to be music.

The agony of disease-stricken patient in Uswaz

Nothing has lately made my life hell, after having to visit the Uswaz dispensary in the wee hours of the morning, writhing, groaning and vibrating like an old tractor with stomach pains.

The emerging brand of rich beggars in Uswaz

This irritating brand of rich-poor men who float from one bar to another, armed with an eagle eye, a very thirsty throat and a ready tongue, ogling anyone from whom they can easily sponge a drink without having to open their wallets makes me go mad.

Not even Noah can save Uswaz from heavy rains

The good Lord in his abode has decided to let open not only all the heavenly faucets, but also the showers, Jacuzzis, dams, drums, tanks and anything that stores water in heaven. For that reason I am requesting any reader with any religious inclination to pray for Uswaz lest we all drown.

A scenario if one suffered dengue fever in Uswaz

It is something akin to Stephen King’s Horror novels! There is a “new” fever doctors are calling “dengue” doing its rounds in this sprawling Uswaz.
