Rwanda says won’t join African Union force for Burundi

Burundi said Thursday it would swiftly crush rebels after they announced they had joined forces to oust President Pierre Nkurunziza following months of bloodshed in the troubled central African country.

The African Union authorises increasing the number of soldiers deployed to Central African Republic to 6,000 as it spirals into sectarian conflict.

Uganda is to deploy 736 troops, an equivalent of a battalion, to the East African intervention force for rapid response to regional conflicts, according to State House on Friday.

Even the fate of Blaise Compaore, who was ousted after a bloody uprising in 2014 after 27 years as president of Burkina Faso, has not been enough to deter other African leaders from clinging to power long after their constitutions demanded they go.

On April 26, Tanzania marked the attinment of 50 years since it was founded as the Union between the then Republic of Tanganyika and the People’s Republic of Zanzibar.

Eight foreign heads of state will join President Jakaya Kikwete tomorrow as he leads Tanzanians to celebrate the country’s 50th anniversary of the Union between Tanganyika and Zanzibar.
