On a golden beach near the coastal city of Mombasa, the mood among locals whose livelihoods depend on foreign sunseekers is gloomy as Kenya’s neighbours are stealing away price-conscious tourists.

In what appears to be measures to prevent a repeat of Garissa-style terrorist attacks, authorities have beefed up security in most public buildings in the cities of Dar es Salaam, Mwanza and Kampala.
