Ukawa insists Twaweza survey result is suspect

Ruling party CCM has defended Twaweza’s opinion poll results released on Tuesday against the backlash from academicians and activists, saying it was shocked to see a group of academicians discouraging the culture of conducting research.

Much of the discussion in traditional media, on social media and elsewhere regarding our recently published opinion poll findings on Tanzanian politics has focussed on perceived errors in the brief. We want to correct three of the most common misunderstandings.
1. “Totals do not add up to 100%.”
It has been pointed out that several charts and tables in the brief include data that does not seem to add up to 100%. In some cases, the figures add up to 99%, 101% or 102%.

Speaking at a press conference in Dar es Salaam today NCCR Mageuzi national chairman Mr James Mbatia and Ukawa co-chairman, raised doubts about the credibility of the methodology used by Twaweza  in the recently published opinion poll.

Some citizens are still ignorant over the status of the loose coalition of Ukawa, with about a half (49 per cent) thinking that it is a fully registered political party.
