Somalia is holding its first international literary festival in the capital Mogadishu.

After music and dancing were banned under strict Sharia law imposed by the militant Islamist group al-Shabab, people are now using a famous square in Mogadishu city centre for a weekly gathering which is breathing new life into their folk dance traditions.

Life is returning to normal at Mogadishu's Lido beach following al-Shabab's expulsion from the Somali capital.

An exhibition that documents Somalia's architecture during its transition from an Italian colony to an independent state and then descent into civil war has opened in London.

Khat - a plant used as a stimulant - was banned as a class C drug in the UK earlier this year. This has meant that its mainly Kenyan producers and exporters have been forced to direct their supplies closer to home, to Somalia.
