VIDEO: Thailand seizes four tonnes of ivory

Two people are being held by police in Tanzania after the seizure of a consignment of illegal ivory at Dar es Salaam port, officials say.

>Ugandan wildlife officers have seized a huge haul of elephant ivory and pangolin scales, representing the deaths of hundreds of endangered animals, police said yesterday.

Dar es Salaam. Tanzania Portland Cement (TPCC), which trades as Twiga Cement, said at the weekend that its production targets will not be deterred by ongoing illegal importation of vital construction materials.

At least 41 tonnes of food are needed for the flood victims in Ugweno Division, Mwanga District in Kilimanjaro Region where 250 houses and 263 hectares of crops were destroyed, authorities in the area have revealed.

Cotton production is projected to increase by 4,000 tonnes this season from 246,000 tonnes the previous period.
