Call for local, foreign firms to invest in Geita

US President Barack Obama reveals that US companies are planning $14bn of investment in Africa at the inaugural US-Africa Leaders' Summit.

More than 490 foreign companies from 31 countries have confirmed participation in the 38 Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF) which will take off on June 28 and end on July 8.

Local African companies have gained a competitive edge on the continent over their multinational counterparts and are making inroads where overseas players once dominated, said a report released Tuesday.

The debate over humanitarian reform is one of money, principles, and institutional change. But for many organisations involved, these boil down to one thing: power – and specifically for local organisations, the unwillingness of their international counterparts to give up any of it.
