EDITORIAL: Let’s help our girls make it to Sydney 2015

The national women’s youth team got their ICC-Africa T20 Under-19 tournament off to a flying start as they beat Mozambique by 65 runs at the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club yesterday.

>There must be a jinx that holds back the national women’s soccer team, Twiga Stars, when it comes to the finals of high-profile competitions. In 2010, they failed to make their presence felt at the Africa Women’s Football Championship finals in South Africa. They lost all three matches in Group A.

>Dar es Salaam city doesn’t have to be dirty. We only need to make a categorical resolution to that effect. For, let’s face it: Dar es Salaam City, affectionately referred to as “Haven of Peace” is the country’s commercial capital and hence, the quintessential gateway to Tanzania.

>The arrest of 12 water thieves on Sunday in an operation led by the Deputy Minister for Water, Mr Amos Makalla, is most welcome, for it might awaken others of their ilk that we still have a working government, a thing that some might have been querying given the impunity which a few among us display at the expense of fellow Tanzanians

It is very unfortunate that we (Tanzanians) are ending the year on a left foot. And likewise, it is most likely that we will begin the New Year on the same foot.
