EDITORIAL: New Youth Park should spark our sports rise

There is a need for Tanzania to cultivate a culture of unearthing and grooming young talents if it is to restore its lost glory in high-profile competitions, says Kenyan athletics legend Kipchoge Keino.

Nowadays every important football club in the world knows that it’s very important to work with kids that can become a part of a professional team in the future. This is why they have academies and plans for young divisions that include doctors, psychologists, personal trainers and other staff.

Over one thousand people attended the opening of the Jakaya Kikwete Youth Park on Saturday as it was officially unveiled to the public for the first time by officials from Sunderland AFC (SAFC), Symbion Power, NBA Africa and Tanzanian President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete.
