ICC drops Uhuru Kenyatta charges

Prosecutors at the International Criminal Court have withdrawn charges against the Kenyan President, Uhuru Kenyatta.

The ex-chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) defends his decision to charge Kenya's president, despite the case collapsing.

International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda yesterday dropped the charges against Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta owing to the insufficient evidence she had gathered against him.

Rais wa Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta, amefika mbele ya mahakama ya kimataifa ya uhalifu ICC huko Hague, ambako anakabiliwa na mashtaka ya uhalifu dhidi ya binaadamu.

Yeye ni kiongozi wa kwanza wa taifa kuwasili mbele ya mahakama hiyo.

Kenyatta amefika mbele ya mahakama hiyo baada ya waendesha mashtaka kuishutumu serikali ya Kenya kukata kuwasilisha ushahidi muhimu. BBC

Mwendesha mashitaka huyo, amesema kuwa katika kesi hiyo hakuna ushahidi uliokamilika wala kuimarika na kuthibitishwa kwa kiongozi huyo kutiwa hatiani kufuatia mashitaka yaliyowasishwa mahakamani hapo dhidi yake ya uhalifu wa kibinadamu.
