Lawmakers, govt differ on wind power project

A British company Aldwych International and its Tanzanian partner Six telecoms Company are at an advanced stage of establishing a major wind power project in Singida region to improve power supply to the north and north-west regions of Tanzania.

 The government has denied reports that it is dragging its feet in signing a contract with investors in a wind power project based on the outskirts of Singida Municipality.

The envisaged Singida Wind Power project will roll the region’s economic fortunes and turn the municipality into a city during the next few years, the project developers said yesterday.

The Tanzania Electric Supply Company (Tanesco) in Njombe Region has incurred a huge loss after strong winds at Itambo and Ihanja in Wanging’ombe District damaged 15 electricity poles.
