Opposition wants House to recall EALA lawmakers

Strife-torn Burundi has stirred controversy at the East African Legislative Assembly (Eala) after its reported intention to recall four of its nine representatives to the regional Parliament.

There was outrage in the East African Legislative Assembly (Eala) currently holding a session here over a plan by Burundi government to withdraw four of its members from the House for reportedly siding with forces against President Pierre Nkurunziza’s extension of tenure.

Yesterday, they stood asking the House Speaker to compel Mr Ngwilizi to withdraw his statement, but their requests were watered down by Ms Makinda who said the House will review the Hansard to find out the authenticity of their claims. Aggrieved by Ms Makinda’s decision, the two furious MPs walked out of the debating chamber.
