SALIM: Z’bar turning to uncivilised politicking?

>Another year has come to an end and paved the way for a new one -- 2015.  Let me accomplish the tradition of wishing everyone a happy and prosperous New Year. The year 2014 has left us with a lot of anxiety as to what is in store for Zanzibar, particularly, as the nation steps into another year of the General Election.

For journalists facing challenges of objectivity, impartiality and balance reporting are a daily encounter, but there is no test of professionalism greater than that posed in the heat and pressure of a bitterly-fought political election.

For many years after the 1964 armed uprising that led to the overthrow of sultan Jemshid bin Abdulla El Busaidy of Omani dynasty and his coalition government of the Zanzibar Nationalist Party (ZNP) and the Zanzibar and Pemba Peoples Party (ZPPP) Zanzibar was known as notorious for human rights violations.

Nearly a decade back I read an article in the Gulf newspaper in which one columnist said that there are some occupations whose members are very good in lying, even in mosques and churches.

No doubt that the Constituent Assembly, which is about to begin its noble mission of deliberating on behalf of all Tanzanians a new and needful Constitution next week in Dodoma is well divided.
