STRAIGHT TALK : Millions want change, let there be free competition

>The hatred that is being planted in the Zanzibar politics is growing by the day. Not only by Zanzibaris themselves and between them, but now the Mainlanders are also taking part and very dangerously so.

Zanzibar is like Dar es Salaam for two different reasons. One is for the lack of condition precedent; and the other is for the non-fulfilment of a constitutional obligation at the right time.

Early this week a group of hooded vigilantes masquerading in day light invaded a private radio station – Coconut FM – located in Zanzibar Town in an excuse of defending a government minister over a debate that was carried by the radio.

The race has begun and it is surely going to be the tightest this country has ever seen on its political terrain spanning nearly six decades and with already four competitive elections.

Wherever you go, there are four basic tenets for any good election. These tenets must be met in full an election to really be credible.

It is now three weeks since Zanzibaris went to the polls. The elections were meant to put in place in a new government. But, that is yet to happen and by each passing day, hope keeps fading. To say the least, it is as if the electorate have been cheated.

By this time next week Tanzanians will be lining in their millions to cast their votes during the 2015 General Election to decide once again which party and which candidates will be entrusted with leadership.
