Efforts by the government to improve the agricultural sector, which is the country’s backbone of the economy, statistics from the Bank of Tanzania (BoT) show that the growth of the sector is sluggish. One of the reasons for poor growth of the sector is lack of support from commercial banks.

Agriculture accounts for about 28 per cent of the GDP and about 70 per cent of Tanzanians earn their daily living through the sector.
