EDITORIAL: WTO must benefit Africa

The 10th Ministereal Conference of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) will be held in Nairobi from 15th to 18th December 2015. The event is expected to be attended by trade negotiators of the 161 WTO Members States including Dr.Ekwow Spio Garbrah, the Honourable Minister for Trade and Industry , and even delegates from non-member countries. 

Tourist arrivals in the East African Community (EAC) bloc will record a rise of four to six per cent this year compared to last year, according to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) projections.

There was a sigh of relief when the 10th WTO Ministerial conference in Nairobi reached an $1.3 trillion Information Technology Agreement. The pact was agreed by a group of member countries who produce IT products and was not opposed by other WTO member states.

>Tanzanian towns and cities are choked, not only by garbage; it is choked by noise too. Noise from music bars, partying households, nightclubs, motorbike taxis (bodaboda)… you name it.    That is called noise pollution. It is bad enough that bar patrons, who should be enjoying themselves, have to contend with sound levels that threaten to burst eardrums.

It is good to have a hobbyhorse. Kenya’s Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed has one – it’s the World Trade Organisation (WTO) ministerial meeting that will be held in Nairobi in December.
