EU plan to take 20,000 refugees

Kenya is working in collaboration with the UN refugee agency on a program that will ensure a smooth and voluntary repatriation of over 500,000 refugees living in five camps at the Dadaad refugee camp in Kenya.

More than 3,000 Burundian refugees in Tanzania have contracted cholera, the UN says, with hundreds of new cases a day.

Three weeks after Burundi’s anti-government street demonstrations started in Bujumbura, the number of refugees who have crossed the border into Tanzania has reached 11,000.

The United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) on Wednesday, 1 July, announced in Dar es Salaam that the number of Burundian refugees in Tanzania is likely to increase from the current 70,000 to between 250,000 and 500,000 as a result of the continued volatile situation related to the presidential elections in Burundi, scheduled to be held on 15 July.
