Govt asked to screen South Sudan refugees

>The South Sudan government, through the ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), has extended an olive branch to rebel leader Riek Machar in a bid to end bloodshed in strife-torn South Sudan and want him “to return home”.

UN ambassador said Wednesday that nearly 180,000 people sheltering in UN bases in his war-torn country should be encouraged to return home despite ongoing fighting.

The failure of peace talks and the end of South Sudan’s wet season could unleash fresh fighting between government forces and rebel factions, propelling millions of people in the world’s youngest nation back towards a man-made famine, analysts and humanitarian workers warn.
