Govt offloads Sh212bn shares in TBL, TCC

The Treasury yesterday took a swipe at Chadema leaders for claiming that the government’s decision to sell its shares in the Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL) and Tanzania Cigarette Company (TCC) was aimed at raising funds for CCM campaigns.

The government has finally agreed with Bharti Airtel over 35 per cent of shares which the India-based company owns in the Tanzania Telecommunications Company Limited (TTCL).

>Discussions between the government and a mobile phone company, Bharti Airtel, with regard to the fate of Airtel’s 35 per cent shares in Tanzania Telecommunications Company Ltd (TTCL) are stuck, The Citizen has learnt.

The government has taken back General Tyre East Africa Limited (GTEA) after purchasing 26 shares owned by US-based company, Continental AG, at a price of one million US Dollars (Sh2.1 billion).

A weaker Tanzanian shilling reduced the net profit of the Tanzania Cigarette Company (TCC) by four per cent during the first half of this year, the firm announced yesterday.
