Hockey side ready for Nairobi meet

Tanzania men’s hockey team’s hopes of making a successful maiden appearance in the International Hockey Federation (FIH) World League Round One have been shattered after conceding two defeats to Egypt and Kenya in Nairobi on Friday and yesterday.

>Eight clubs have so far confirmed their participation in this year’s Mapinduzi hockey championship opening on March 14 at Lugalo grounds.

The national athletics team left for Beijing, China yesterday for the 5th IAAF World Championships opening on Saturday. The Championship is scheduled for August 22 to 30 in Beijing, and four Tanzanian long distance runners would jostle for laurels on behalf of the country at the event.

>Tanzania will field 24 athletes in this year’s Africa Cross Country Championships in Kampala, Uganda next month.
